A powerful mind needs more than speed. It needs good brakes. Some minds run at 200 km/h.
Ideas come quickly. One thought leads to another. We get excited, jump into projects, talk fast, think fast, and sometimes act before we have had time to think things through.
Imagine driving a Ferrari with a powerful engine but poor brakes. The problem is not the engine. We need that engine.
Our brains work similarly. The prefrontal cortex acts like a braking system, helping us control impulses, manage emotions, stay focused, and pause before acting. A fast mind can be a tremendous strength. The goal is not to kill the engine. It is to strengthen the brakes.
Don’t kill the engine. Strengthen the brakes.
Sometimes we need to move. Sometimes we need to stop. I often remind myself: God who orders our steps can also order our stops.
Perhaps that is why Psalm 46:10 says: “Be still, and know that I am God.”
Stillness is not weakness. It gives our thoughts time to settle and creates space to listen before reacting.
So sleep well. Exercise. Pray. Reflect. Learn to pause.
Your fast mind may be one of your greatest strengths.
Don’t kill the engine. Strengthen the brakes.
