Waiting is a hard thing to do. Waiting when you’re in love seems impossible.
It was a love story that crossed borders. Kelli met Chris when she was working as a nanny in Australia, but her home was far away in America. Their courtship was a tricky one, spanning oceans, continents, and years. Finally, they were engaged to be married but the immigration agencies of both countries kept the fiancés apart. The easiest thing, the thing that would bring quick satisfaction…was illegal. Kelli and Chris made the hard choice to wait on God and believe Him when He said that He was a waymaker (Isaiah 43:19).
Mountains of forms later, interview after interview, the waiting began. As followers of Jesus, Kelli and Chris read their Bibles. They believed God when they read that “the word of the Lord holds true, and we can trust everything he does” (Psalm 33:4)
For since the world began, no ear has heard and no eye has seen a God like you, who works for those who wait for him! Isaiah 64:4
God has a lot to say to those who are waiting. Scripture encourages waiters: “Wait for the Lord and keep his way, and he will exalt you” (Psalm 37:34) “The Lord is good to those who wait for him, to the soul who seeks him.” (ESV) “The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still” (Exodus 14:14 NIV). “For since the world began, no ear has heard and no eye has seen a God like you, who works for those who wait for him! (Isaiah 64:4)
If you’re waiting on God today, know this: He is making your way through! After almost a year, Kelli and Chris’s long wait was interrupted by joy—in the form of a visa! In fact, by the time you hear or read this, they’ll be legally married! The God of the Bible is the God Who works for those who wait for Him.
