Words are powerful, and how we speak can change our lives and those around us. There’s a reason why we call it “spelling”—because words can cast SPELLS.
We might as well cast the following good spells when speaking:
- LIFE: “Death and life are in the power of the tongue” (Proverbs 18:21). To speak life means to give words of hope, encouragement, edification, support, and love. Craft words that uplift, inspire confidence and motivate us and those close to us.
- COMFORT: Words of support and encouragement during times of difficulty will go a long way. Simple affirmations like “I want you to know I’m in this with you. We’re going to fight this together” can make a significant difference in someone’s life.
- PEACE: We are called to be Peacemakers (Matthew 5:9). Develop an internal consciousness of peace rooted in God, and use it daily to foster understanding and harmony, heal pain, resolve conflicts, and spread peace. Use calm and respectful language to create an atmosphere of serenity.
- GRATITUDE: “To speak gratitude is courteous and pleasant, to enact gratitude is generous and noble, but to live gratitude is to touch Heaven.” —Johannes A. Gaertner. Regularly express thankfulness and positivity. When we show appreciation for the people and things that enrich our lives, it reinforces positive beliefs and creates an optimistic outlook.
- GRACIOUSNESS: “Let your conversation be always full of grace…” (Colossians 4:6). Gracious speech can heal, build up, encourage, build stronger relationships, and foster a positive environment. Ask if we can help when seeing someone in need, and apologize when we offend.
That is why it’s called SPELLING
Words can transform, heal, and inspire. Use our words wisely, and let them be a source of positivity and growth.
