In our seminars, we usually ask, “Sino sa inyo ang magastos ang asawa? Itaas ang kamay. Eh sino naman ang mas magastos?“ Ayan, kayo pala ang problema! Naalala n’yo ba noong kinasal kayo… a few years ago? (Ang iba ay a few months ago.) Do you still remember your marriage vows? Heto – “for better, for worse,” Ano’ng kasunod? “For richer, for poorer” At… “in sickness and in health.” Pagkatapos, “’til death do us part.” Ang ibang tao, ganito naman ang sinasabi, “Til debt do us part!” Dahil marami na tayong utang, “Maghiwalay na tayo!” Kayo? Ano’ng sinabi sa inyo ng nagkasal sa inyo? Ano’ng sabi? “And the two shall become one.”
Now, pag-usapan natin kung bakit maraming mag-asawa ang nasisira ang pagsasama nang dahil sa pera. Nakakita na ba kayo ng mag-asawang nag-uutangan? Mayroon ano? Kung di n’yo pa alam, ganito ‘yun. Normally, nag-uutangan ‘yan kapag parehong may trabaho. Ganito ang usapan nila. Sabi ni misis kay mister, “So honey, ganito’ng gagawin natin ha? Ikaw ang bahala sa renta ng bahay. Ako naman ang bahala sa kuryente at tubig.” Sabi naman ni mister kay misis, “Ikaw ang bahala sa pagkain at sa grocery. Ako naman, sa pag-aaral ng mga bata.” Mayroon silang toka-toka ng gastusin sa bahay. Ang tanong, maganda ba ‘yun?
Sa totoo lang, alam n’yo bang napakadelikado ng sistemang ito? Bakit? Ibig sabihin, kapag pareho kayong may pera, may mga pagkakataong kakapusin si Misis. Kapag kinapos si Misis, pupunta kay Mister at mangungutang. At kapag utang, dapat bayaran. Ang cute, cute nila ano? Mag-asawa yan, pero nag-uutangan!
Napakadelikado din ng may kanya-kanyang pera! May mga ginagastos si Mister o si Misis na hindi nila parehong nalalaman! Kaya nga kayo nagpakasal – “and the two shall become one.” Kaya nga ninyo ipinagkatiwala ang buhay ninyo sa asawa n’yo; kaya nga ninyo ibinigay ang katawan ninyo sa asawa n’yo. Tapos ang pera, hindi ninyo kayang ipagkatiwala? Kung ganun, bakit pa kayo nagpakasal? Sana, nanatili na lang kayong mga binata’t dalaga para wala nang mababago sa ginagawa niyo.
Ipapakita ko sa inyo ang ginagawa namin. Nagpakasal kami, “and the two shall become one!” When we got married, pera ko, pera n’ya; pera n’ya, pera ko. Ang tawag duon ay conjugal property!
Kapag magkahiwalay ang pera, ang dali rin ninyong maghiwalay. Kasi sa totoo lang, wala naman kayong paghihiwalayan, kasi hiwalay naman kayo talaga. Bakit maraming mag-asawa ang nahihirapang maghiwalay? Kasi, conjugal ang property eh. Kaya kung maghihiwalay, ang hirap paghiwalayin. Minsan, ito pa ang dahilan para hindi sila maghiwalay.
Hypothetical question – Misis, what if (huwag naman sanang mangyari), mambabae ang asawa n’yo? Kasi mayroon s’yang pera na hindi n’yo alam. At pwede n’yang gamitin ito sa mga bagay na hindi n’yo alam.
