We’ve heard it and sung it over and over. “Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good; His love endures forever.” 1 Chronicles 16:34
As I was thinking of something to write about, and having a lot of difficulty thinking about it, I always came back to being thankful to God.
Then I became curious why the Bible, especially in the Psalms, there was a consistent repetition of this phrase, “Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good; His love endures forever.” An initial search at biblegateway.com of “give thanks forever” gave me 13 instances in the New International Version.
I made a quick search, this time using Google and I found a document that told me this:
Some people’s romantic love for each other endures only for a few days or for a few months. Some people divorce even during their honeymoon. Some people’s love for each other endures for a lifetime. Then death separates them from each other. But the love of God endures forever. Nothing, even death, can separate us from the enduring love of God. He will always love us through eternity. God’s love never quits, never ends, never exhausts. His love never changes. God himself is love. It is the love of God, demonstrated through the life and death of our Saviour Jesus Christ, which has shaped our lives and made us who we are today.
And I couldn’t agree more. We love someone at one hour and hate the same the next. That is why we need to always thank God because He never stops loving us. During the course of the day, we forget God’s love for us, but He does not.
When we are in difficulty, we sometimes doubt or blame God for the situation we are in, but did God ever ask or blame us when Jesus was on the cross paying the penalty for our sins? You’re answer would be as good as mine, “No, He did not blame us.”
Let the hours of our days be filled with thanksgiving because we understand the greatness of God’s love for us. It has endured countless generations.
Jeremiah 31:3 The LORD appeared to us in the past, saying: “I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with unfailing kindness.
