It’s amazing, to say the least: The outpouring of sorrow and acclamation, not only in America but all around the world. This increased sense of God and His power to forgive and save. The need to have ongoing conversations which should result in understanding instead of alienation, and worst, assassinations.
Was Charlie Kirk the axe that needed to fall so that an entire nation can pause and search within? We surely grieved with his budding family, hordes of young people whose lives he touched by just being there for them, dialoguing with them, and never backing down from sharing God’s Word even if it seemed offensive to those opposed to it.
Much has been said about how this young soul’s demise ignited a people’s sensitivities about patriotism, dialogue and freedom of speech, best of all, how God and His moral laws figure in the affairs of men, but also in politics and governance.
The axe has surely fallen on all of us. Most of us have mostly been fence-sitters, waiting for change to happen when we could—just like Charlie—be an instrument of change. Because we’ve all been given abilities by the Almighty to impact the lives of those around us. Oh yes, Charlie was brilliant, with a genius-like grasp of history and the Bible and their relationship and relevance to current culture.
But God is not after genius. He’s after obedient hearts. He works best with people who are willing. And Charlie was willing. Some called him divisive. But multitudes realized he merely spoke—and lived—the truth, and boldly. For without courage, we will just be cowed and immobilized by fear.
Rest in peace, Charlie. May your courage live on in us. ypo
