Knowing God’s Will for Your Kids

Judges 14:1-4 “One day when Samson was in Timnah, one of the Philistine women caught his eye. When he returned home, he told his father and mother, ‘A young Philistine woman in Timnah caught my eye. I want to marry her. Get her for me.’ His father and mother objected. ‘Isn’t there even one woman in our tribe or among all the Israelites you could marry?’ they asked. ‘Why must you go to the pagan Philistines to find a wife?’ But Samson told his father, ‘Get her for me! She looks good to me.’ His father and mother didn’t realize the Lord was at work in this, creating an opportunity to work against the Philistines, who ruled over Israel at that time.”

As parents, we want our children to go the path that we think best for them. We want the best for them and we want them to honor God. Sometimes God has a different AND greater plan than what WE think is God’s plan for them.

I love my kids. I have two sons. All I want is for them to grow up to be good kids, knowing God and growing in Him. I will leave to them the rest of the details. of course, I will guide them to the best of what I know. I also know that God has a plan for them and I need to prepare them for that.

Samson Kills the Philistines

In Samson’s case, God had a plan for him that his parents did not realize. He wanted to marry a philistine woman. This was supposed to be contrary to the will of God. I agree with his parent when they questioned Samson about this. Aside from the woman being a pagan, the Philistines were an oppressing nation against Israel. They were ruling over them. All the more reason to oppose the marriage. But God had a plan. What the devil may have meant for evil, God turns it around for good.

God wanted to deliver Israel from the hands of the Philistines and he was going to use Samson, whether he knows it or not.

We parents need to be able to hear from God. Its important so that we can prepare them to fulfill God’s plan in their lives. I was blessed that two prophets told me that one of my sons will be a pastor and the other, an evangelist. I’m taking God’s word for that, believing that it will come to pass.

Parent’s let us not take for granted our children. Love them and nurture them so they will be able to achieve great things. Let us not impose our will on them but guide them. Let us allow God to work in their lives. Just read Samson’s story.
