LISTEN TO THE DEVOTIONAL
Big decisions can bring big pressure.
Picture three people at a crossroads. Emily is torn between a stable job and a risky career change. Jonah’s heart says he’s ready to propose—but is it the right time? Mia is deciding what to study at university, wondering how it will shape her future.
We’ve all faced big decisions that keep us up at night. Scripture teaches us to pray: “Show me the right path, O Lord; point out the road for me to follow” (Psalm 25:4). So how do we listen for God’s guidance?
First, surrender your expectations. Tell God your fears, hopes, and desires—and be willing to give up your preferences and timelines. Read the Bible and ask God to speak clearly.
Second, seek wise counsel—not to make your decision for you, but to speak into it with love and truth. Wise counselors can help you see clearly when emotions are clouding your judgment. Then, pray about the advice given.
Show me the right path, O Lord; point out the road for me to follow. Psalm 25:4
Third, pay attention to God’s peace. That’s what should rule our hearts (Colossians 3:15). If you continually feel uneasy about a decision, don’t ignore it. Pray, listen, and consider if the Holy Spirit is nudging you.
Fourth, remember: obedience brings clarity. A wise man once said, “Most Christians don’t hear God’s voice because we’ve already decided we aren’t going to do what He says.” Are you open to His guidance, even when it’s hard?[1]
When you trust in God’s guidance, you may not get instant answers. But you will get His presence and His peace. Be willing to wait until He speaks. And when He does, follow Him!
