Roar! is a children’s book written by OMF Literature editor and writer, Myrna “Yna” Reyes and illustrated by Bianca Lesaca and published for Hiyas, OMF Lit’s imprint. I bought this book for my youngest son, Edwin James.
I like reading books and children’s books are no exemption. You learn a lot from reading these kinds of books so maybe you should try them from time-to-time. And this time, I read ROAR!
This is a well-summarised version of the popular Bible’s story about Daniel and the lion’s den. I do have some weariness about using certain words and phrases in a children’s book such as, “cruel,” “bones being crushed,” and ”patayin ang mga kaaway.” But then again, this is a story in the Bible and I agree that sometimes there are words, however, hard they maybe, need to be used like those I mentioned before. Such is real life.
Setting aside those minor quibbles, the pace of the book is good and the story well told. The illustration is beautiful (I wish I could paint like Bianca)! An adult reader like me can finish it in 10 minutes tops. EJ read it in longer. EJ told me he liked it and finished it quickly saying the “dialogs” were short. He and my wife Emy appreciates that the book is bilingual because they discover the meaning of English words that is not too familiar in Pilipino.
The book costs a reasonable 80.00 Pesos but I got it 30% off because I bought it at the Manila International Book Fair. You can buy your at all leading bookstores nationwide.
