One of the verses about mothers that I am often reminded of is “Mary pondered what was happening around her and treasured the moment in her heart.”
Because children are blessings as described by our Maker, I have experienced them blessing me over and over. Many times I would ponder like Mary and I would quietly relish the moment and journal them. Each child has a journal. I have recorded funny and profound moments of their early years. Reading through them is one way I celebrate motherhood. And it is also a treasure of illustrations that benefit others when I share about childlikeness. Here are some of those precious memories. I hope it uplifts you and inspire you to start your own journal if you haven’t yet.
Mama Memory #1 I remember sharing with my daughter how tired I was because we had no helper. To this she responded, “But, Mama, God IS our helper.” What a stress buster that was.
Mama Memory #2 When my daughter was 3 years old, she saw a long line of kids in front of Santa in a mall. She asked why. I told her that they believe Santa has some kind of magic to make their wishes come true. To this she responded, “Hmm… I prefer God’s magic to Santa’s.”
Mama Memory #3 When our eldest goes to bed I usually make her complete a comforting truth. I say, “When everybody’s sleeping”, then she says, “God is awake.”
Mama Memory #4 Our daughter’s love language is touch. When we arrived from a trip out of town she asked, “Did you embrace me there?
Mama Memory #5 When baby cries, we panic trying to figure out why. Blessed to know our Father knows exactly what we need, even before we cry.
Mama Memory #6 My son was 2-years-old. As we entered the mall, the guard extended his arms to frisk him. My son extended his arms & hugged him!
Mama Memory #7 My son’s version of Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star.
“Wrinkle, wrinkle on my face,
Can you fly to outer space?
Up above the world so high
Like a crumpled butterfly
Wrinkle, wrinkle on my face
Can you fly to outer space?
Mama Memory #8 As I led bedtime prayers for my toddler, “Heavenly, heavenly Father…” He quickly responded, “the mouse ran up the clock.”
Mama Memory #9 After prayers at night I tenderly say, “Mom and Daddy love you.” And our kids reply, “But Jesus loves me best.”
Mama Memory #10 And because Jesus loves our children best, they can love others, too which I recently witnessed through my son’s artwork dedicated to his older sister. See photo below:
