Who would sacrifice himself for the enemy? I am pretty sure that no one will even attempt or think about such an act. Someone may offer his life for a loved one, but for an enemy? No way.
But then, we are not God. We will not be able to comprehend His thinking and the depth of His love for everyone on this planet. God loves everyone on earth and will readily give His life for us, His enemies, even if we don’t even know it. That is why I will not accept the teaching that God only wants a select few to be saved. That is not the God of the Bible that I know.
I did nothing to deserve God’s love; in fact, I was living as an orphan, without hope. Yet God chose to pursue a relationship with me, and through the death of his son Jesus, I was adopted into God’s family. —Steven Curtis Chapman
For instance, why would God makes His only Son, Jesus go through so much suffering and humiliation if He will not make His love available for everyone? It just doesn’t make sense.
Romans 5:10 says, “For if, while we were God’s enemies, we were reconciled to him through the death of his Son, how much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved through his life!” I am glad that this verse makes it plain and simple for us ordinary people.
Everyone, no one is exempted from being reconciled to God through the death of His Son, Jesus.
Every person that Paul was talking to in this passage of Scripture, even himself, was God’s enemy before Jesus’s sacrifice. Now that He has offered Himself up, “It is finished,” Jesus said, everyone has been reconciled, friend AND enemy. This is the first step that needed to be done. The only thing left to do now is to accept the free gift of salvation that was made available by being reconciled to Jesus.
So let us be confident in this, “…While we were still sinners, Christ died for us” (Romans 5:8, NIV) This shows God’s immense love for EVERYONE of us. The invitation to receive this free gift is now offered to YOU. Accept the invitation by praying this prayer: Lord Jesus, thank you for the sacrifice You made by dying on the cross for my sins. I repent of my sins. Forgive me by the blood of your Son, Jesus. Cleanse me and make me whole. I receive Your Son Jesus as my Lord and Savior. I give you full control of my life today, in Jesus’s name, amen.
Welcome to the family of God!
