LISTEN TO THE DEVOTIONAL

Nothing is so painful to a mom and dad as to see their child make bad decisions and choose the wrong way. It hurts so much! But be encouraged that God understands when you have problems with your kids. He has problems with His kids too!

But you have inside pull with God in seeing change come about in their lives—it’s called prayer. Never underestimate the power of prayer! Your children may not listen to what you say or follow your advice, but they cannot keep you from praying for them!

One Bible teacher once said, “Men may spurn our appeals, reject our message, oppose our arguments, despise our persons, but they are helpless against our prayers.” I like that—your kids are helpless against your prayers!

If you are discouraged with what is happening in the life of your son or daughter, don’t give up praying. It is the most powerful thing you can do for those closest to your heart.

When He was here on earth, on many occasions Jesus rewarded the faith of those who came to Him with a request on behalf of someone else, such as the Roman officer whose servant was ill. And what about those who sought out Jesus on behalf of Peter’s mother-in-law? Don’t forget the four men who lowered their paralyzed friend down through the roof to Jesus. All of these earnestly petitioned Him for those closest to their hearts, and Jesus responded and answered their requests.

Jesus isn’t on earth in a body like He was in Bible days. But we can come to Him on behalf of our kids just as much through prayer as if He were here in person. It makes no difference, for He is the same, yesterday, today and forever (Hebrews 13:8).

If you are discouraged with what is happening in the life of your son or daughter, don’t give up praying. It is the most powerful thing you can do for those closest to your heart.

And they can’t stop you!
